TEHRAN – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said the current political system of the United States will collapse soon.

“Freedom-seekers will rule this country (the U.S.) soon,” Ahmadinejad said during an address on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of the first phase of a gasoline production unit in Abadan, Khuzestan Province on Tuesday.

Regional nations should maintain close relations with each other and remain vigilant in order to foil the U.S. plots, which have been devised to create divisions between them through, for example, causing conflicts between Sunnis and Shias.

What is the motive?  Japan is not as susceptible to Zionist propaganda and such justifications as the Jewish Holocaust for everything from clamping down on free speech to waging wars don’t fly there because they had their own Holocaust courtesy of the USA.  Incidentally ground zero for one of the nukes was directly over a Catholic church in the most Christian part of Japan.

So this could be another orchestrated attack on the people and economy of Japan, like US government and media’s attacks against Toyota’s gas pedals last year, which it now turns out was not Toyota’s fault at all.

The fact that Israelis were contracted for security at the reactors also raises an eyebrow.  They really do have their fingers in all the places they should definately not be.

Harper’s manipulative and misleading rhetoric about Israel’s ‘right to defend’ is straight up propaganda.

Anyone familiar with Israel’s land grabs and provocations will know that the violence they propagate with US financed and manufactured weapons is about victimizing those who stand in the way of it’s goal to control large areas of the middle east.

Canada is “morally obliged” to stand up to threats against Israel, Prime Minister Stephen Harper told a Jewish audience in downtown Toronto Thursday night as both he and Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff sparred over which party is the stronger supporter of democracy in the Middle East.

Opponents who say that Canada has “lost its way” when it comes to its foreign policy are using “code for the view that Canada should go back to being ambivalent about our relationship with Israel and its fundamental right to defend itself,” Mr. Harper said. “Our party will never do that. We will always stand by [Israel].”

Both he and the Liberal leader addressed a sold-out crowd of 1,000 at the event hosted by the Canadian Jewish Political Affairs Committee. It was held at the Royal Conservatory of Music.

The Liberals have a long association with the Canadian Jewish community and, as a defender of Israel, “does not do code,” said Mr. Ignatieff.

“I disagree with Mr. Harper about just about everything,” he said. “We have plenty to disagree upon. We have plenty we can use to run an election campaign on. Let us not run an election campaign on who’s the better support of the state of Israel,” he said.

Both Mr. Harper and Mr. Ignatieff decried anti-Semitism on Canadian campuses, which the Prime Minister said has gained a disturbing foothold in the country’s universities in the form of Israeli Apartheid Week and had become increasingly sophisticated and “intellectually acceptable.”

“This is the time to reaffirm that it is permissible to criticize the state of Israel, but it is impermissible to compare it to South Africa,” Mr. Ignatieff said.

Canada will be “vigilant” in watching the unfolding turmoil in the Middle East, Mr. Harper said, while Mr. Ignatieff said Canada should reaffirm its commitment to Israel’s security and become a global leader in the fight against Middle Eastern dictatorships, like that of Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad or Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi.

Threats against the Jewish people and the state of Israel represent threats against Canadian values of freedom and democracy, Mr. Harper said.

“We must be relentless, relentless and uncompromising in exposing this anti-Semitism for what it is,” he said.

“We believe fundamentally that Israel has a right to exist and just as importantly we recognize the conflict around Israel is at its heart and at its core about the refusal of still too many to accept the reality of a Jewish state in the Middle East, but Israel is here to stay.”

Yes humans are ‘special’… yet so is every other life form on earth.

Hufschmid must have had some bad experiences as a child or perhaps has that lack of empathy associated with the sociopath.

Anyone who has ever spent time with animals know that they feel intense emotions, they do think, and have unique individual personalities.

Only the very emotionally and spiritually distant, or those under the influence of some evil belief system could think such as Hufschmid relays in the quoted passage below.

Perhaps the same way of thinking permeates the elites, only they think of all humans as ‘biological robots’.

I pity Eric Hufschmid.  He clearly is missing out on an essential part of the human experience, our critical connection to the natural world through our non-human friends.

Animals are biological robots that have no desires or thoughts. They neither enjoy life, nor dislike life. They have no leisure activities, either. Everything animals do has a very important reason for it. For example, we assume that whales are “playing” and “having fun” when they jump out of the water, but animals don’t “have fun”. All of their behavior that we interpret as “playfulness” or as “leisure activities” developed for a very serious reason simply because the competitive struggle for life does not permit frivolous qualities. Kimberly Rogers (c. 1961 — 9 August 2001) was a Canadian whose death in 2001, while under house arrest for welfare fraud, caused extensive controversy around Ontario Works (the Ontario government’s welfare system). Rogers’ death lead to an inquest which recommended significant changes to the Ontario welfare system.

A resident of Sudbury, Ontario, Rogers, who was unable to work full-time due to health issues, was receiving standard Ontario welfare benefits of $520 per month, while paying $450 per month in rent. From 1996 to 1999, she also received a total of $49,000 in student loans from OSAP to study social services at the city’s Cambrian College. Ms. Rogers was described as a dedicated and committed student, who graduated with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 (90%)^[1]

When Rogers first began her studies, receiving both welfare and student loans was entirely legal, and in fact even encouraged as a strategy to help welfare recipients return to the workforce — but the practice was banned in 1996 by the Progressive Conservative government of Mike Harris as part of its welfare reform legislation. There was no evidence that Rogers was ever informed of the change in welfare regulations.

In the fall of 1999, the welfare office learned of her student loans, and ordered Rogers to repay $13,486 in benefits. With the overpayment automatically deducted from her monthly welfare cheque, Rogers was left with just $18 each month after paying her rent. As well, she was facing criminal charges for welfare fraud.

Justice Greg Rodgers of the Ontario Court of Justice found Rogers guilty of fraud 25 April 2001, stating that she had engaged in “almost four years of deception and dishonesty.”

“I am satisfied you did not lead an opulent lifestyle, even with these two sources of income,” Justice Rodgers said in his verdict, “but welfare is there for people who need it, not for people who want it, who want things and who want money.”

Rogers, who was pregnant at the time of her trial, was sentenced to six months of house arrest, permitted to leave the house for medical, religious or shopping reasons only on Wednesday mornings, and for a maximum of three hours. She was also ordered to repay the full amount of her overpayment.

With the fraud conviction, Ontario Works suspended her welfare benefits for three months, leaving Rogers with no income to pay her rent, buy food or medication, or even pay her fine. (Around the same time, the Harris government increased the maximum penalty for welfare fraud to lifetime suspension — although this penalty did not directly affect Rogers’ situation, it was reviewed in the subsequent inquest.)

With no source of income, Rogers struggled to survive. Her landlord temporarily agreed to reduce her rent to $300 a month, community groups such as the Elizabeth Fry Society and the Social Planning Council of Greater Sudbury rallied to find food and financial assistance for her, and her doctor lobbied the government to have drug benefits which had previously been covered by welfare reinstated because Rogers was unable to pay for her prescribed medications, including antidepressants and drugs to alleviate pregnancy-related nausea.

Sean Dewart, a Toronto lawyer, launched a constitutional appeal on Rogers’ behalf, successfully having Rogers’ welfare suspension reversed by Justice Gloria Epstein. On May 31, Epstein ruled that “for a member of our community carrying an unborn child to be homeless and deprived of basic sustenance is a situation that would adversely affect the public — its dignity, its human rights commitments and its health care resources.”

Rogers’ body was found in her apartment 9 August 2001 by her boyfriend, Terry Pyhtila. Eight months pregnant, she had been dead for several days in an apartment without air conditioning. Her death led to extensive controversy and outrage in Ontario and across Canada, and a formal inquest was convened in October 2002.

On its very first day, the inquest was informed that the actual cause of Rogers’ death was suicide by an amitriptyline overdose, and that Rogers may have altered her antidepressant prescription to ensure that she had a sufficient supply of medication to constitute a lethal dose. However, they were asked to review the impact of the government’s welfare fraud policy on Rogers’ decision to take her own life.

On December 19, the jury delivered its decision. Their first recommendation was that the lifetime suspension of benefits should be eliminated — temporary suspension would still be permitted as a penalty, but could no longer be imposed retroactively on a person whose fraud conviction predated the adoption of the legislation.

The jury also indicated that suspension and/or prosecution should not necessarily be automatic, but that each case should be evaluated by Ontario Works administrators and/or a stakeholder committee to determine the most appropriate response to the individual situation. As well, the jury ruled that drug benefits should not be suspended even when regular benefits were, that Ontario Works should make more effort to uncover fraud situations earlier so that the penalties had less emotional and financial impact on the recipient, and that the government should review the adequacy of social assistance rates, which until then had not been raised (not even by a simple cost of living adjustment) since the Harris government cut the rate to $520 per month in 1996.

As well, the jury made several recommendations to other government ministries. They ruled that the government had a responsibility to ensure that a person under house arrest had access to adequate shelter, food and medication, as well as an obligation to help individuals on probation or parole locate the appropriate community services to assist their adjustment back into society. They also recommended improved communication between government departments, in response to evidence that Justice Rodgers had not even known that a fraud conviction would lead to a suspension of Kimberly Rogers’ benefits, and clearer communication to citizens of both the definition and the potential consequences of welfare fraud.

The jury also recommended several improvements in the province’s medical system to prevent potential abuse, including the creation of a computer database network to improve pharmacies’ access to a patient’s prior prescription records. Doctors would also be asked to write out prescriptions in both number and text in order to reduce the possibility of prescriptions being altered, and to review the use of tricyclic antidepressants.

The government of Ernie Eves did not implement any of the Rogers inquest’s recommendations before it was defeated in the 2003 provincial election. Community and Social Services Minister Brenda Elliott dismissed the recommendations as unnecessary tinkering with a system that “was working effectively”.

In early 2004, the government of Dalton McGuinty implemented a three per cent increase in welfare rates, to be followed by an annual cost of living increase, and eliminated the lifetime suspension of benefits. However, the McGuinty government has not, to date, implemented most of the inquest’s other recommendations.

Social Planning Council of Greater Sudbury chair Janet Gasparini, who had been a prominent media commentator in the Rogers case, was elected to Greater Sudbury City Council in the 2003 municipal election.

So many intelligent Americans believe, say and do stupid things. When a large fraction of the population is like this, a nation rots from the inside and succumbs to external forces.

I have always searched for the simplest yet best ways to explain what I see as a multi-decade decline of every aspect of the United States , especially its political system and government. I keep coming back to the inescapable logic that a large fraction of Americans, regardless of their education, economic status and political alignment, must suffer from delusion. This delusion produces denial about hugely important subjects and issues.

Like a law of physics, this combination makes people seem incredibly stupid to others disagreeing with their positions. Stupid, because they are unable to accept facts and truths that conflict with their views.

This special kind of stupidity is independent of inherent intelligence. In this case brain power is overpowered by psychological deficiency, namely self-delusion.

This delusion is not genetically produced, but is a result of external influences, notably political, government, media and corporate propaganda intentionally designed to produce delusional beliefs and thinking. Who does this? All sorts of commercial and political interests. The result is a series of biases and blocks, such as cognitive dissonance, to objective facts and information that creates denial about very important conditions affecting the planet, the nation and individuals. People afflicted with this deadly combination appear stupid to those outside their mental ghetto that they gladly inhabit, along with similarly afflicted people.

National unity breaks down with countless mental ghettos that span economic, political and geographic boundaries.

Conservatives see liberals as stupid and vice versa. Democrats see Tea Party adherents (who only support Republican candidates) as stupid and vice versa. Those seeing climate change and global warming as serious phenomena posing real threats see deniers as stupid. People who give a high priority to tax cuts that mainly benefit the rich and superrich seem stupid to those who recognize that the wealthiest Americans have hijacked the US economy, as shown by endless statistics that reveal their preferential financial benefits. Those who reject religions think the religious stupid. People who shun social networking sites see those addicted to them as stupid. Growing numbers of obese people seem stupid to those eating healthy and exercising regularly to maintain healthy weights.

A prime example of a mental ghetto is the collection of radical, terrorist Muslims sharing hate and violence and blocking out teachings from authentic Muslims about peace and love.

You surely can think of classes of people who seem stupid, because of a particular belief or viewpoint rather than across-the-board limited intelligence. With conversations that have nothing to do with their position (or maybe several), you would likely think of them as reasonably intelligent and smart, not stupid. In other words, stupidity is often topic or issue specific.

Here are two examples of what I call psychological stupidity with their powerful implications for understanding why the nation is seen on the wrong track by so many Americans who cannot unite behind solutions.

There is no mystery why the top 20 percent of the population in terms of wealth votes for Republicans, but they are not enough to win elections. What makes far less sense is why many more middle class Americans vote for Republicans. They seem stupid in voting against their own economic interests because Republicans pursue policies that preferentially reward the richest Americans. This behavior can only be explained by the success of Republican propaganda (mainly trickle down prosperity), lies and deceptions that instill a set of biases and beliefs that enable Republicans to win elections. A prime example is obtaining broad support for keeping taxes on really rich people low.

On the other side, are millions of people who vote for Democrats because they have been sold rhetoric about reforming the government system, as if Democrats are not also in the pockets of a number of special interests that will not accept truly needed deep reforms. Why have we not seen President Obama pursue punishment of many people and companies in the banking, mortgage and financial sectors that caused the economic meltdown? He had received huge campaign contributions from them and then surrounded himself with cabinet officials and advisors from them. Otherwise intelligent people vote for Democrats because of their psychological stupidity based on false promises of change and reform that they have succumbed to.

Psychological stupidity has become a kind of cultural epidemic that no one is addressing, so it just gets worse. It invites manipulation and the continuing corrosion and corruption of government. The rich and powerful know how to take advantage of this stupidity, obtaining government policies and programs they want, selling products and services that consumers do not really benefit from, and grabbing more of the nation’s wealth.

Those afflicted with psychological stupidity are also likely to exhibit moral superiority, making it even more difficult to have intelligent and productive conversations with them. Such arrogance strengthens their defenses against facts and information that conflicts with their cherished views. The answer: Associate with others having exactly the same views and only get information from like-minded media sources, creating mental ghettos (such as the Tea Party and Fox News) that others can take political or commercial advantage of (Republicans and companies selling gold).

Self-deception is the widespread legal narcotic lubricating the slide of American society into the toilet that other once great nations ended up in. Maybe this old Arab proverb warrants respect: People who lie to others have merely hidden away the truth, but people who lie to themselves have forgotten where they put it.
